One of the The Travel Channel’s thirteen scariest attractions across the country, — America’s largest haunted house — X-Scream, is open for nightmares from October 14 until Halloween.

Deathmask Studios returns for a bloody month packed with murders, unexplained events, and terror. For the fourth year in a row, the haunted house has teamed up with the talented students of G-Star School of the Arts, where 150 aspiring actors and actresses have taken the on the sinister roles of 6 different haunts.

Palm Beach State College will be hosting a Fashion Show on the Plaza in support of their college foundation. This event will include a collection of stylish designs modeled by local celebrities combined with music hosted by 97.9 WRMF and a presentation of stylish tips for locals.

Three superbands take the stage this month at Cruzan Amphitheatre

West Palm Beach is the place to be for all the best summer concerts! This month, you won’t want to miss both Rascal Flatts and Maroon 5 with Train at the Cruzan Amphitheatre.

Country superstars Rascal Flatts take the stage on August 20 at 7 p.m. along with Sara Evans, Justin Moore, and Easton Corbin.

A week later on August 30, Maroon 5 and Train team up for their massive headlining summer tour. The concert will include over 20-charted hit songs from two bands that have sold over 22 million records worldwide. There will also be a performance by San Francisco native Matt Nathanson.

Lifesaving Hurricane Tips

Would you be prepared if a hurricane hit West Palm Beach? The National Hurricane Center recommends a few simple steps to ensure that you and your family are prepared in case of a severe storm.

Create a Storm Plan

The key to preparedness is creating an emergency plan, whether it be for an evacuation procedure or for preparing your home and family. Here are a few key tips from the Hurricane Center’s guide to creating an emergency plan:

• Locate a safe room or the safest areas in your home. In certain circumstances the safest areas may not be your home but within your community.
• Have an out-of-state friend as a family contact so all your family members have a single point of contact.
• Post emergency telephone numbers by your phones and make sure your children know how and when to call 911.

Hurricane Supplies

The Hurricane Center also recommends creating a disaster supply kit. Most items like water and food are usually sold-out in a time of emergency. Stock up on and prepare these items early:

• First Aid materials including prescription drugs
• Water (1 gallon per person per day)
• Clothing (sturdy shoes and rain gear included)
• Toiletries and hygiene products
• Battery operated radios, non-cordless phones and fully-charged cell phones
• Flashlights, batteries, keys and tools
• Baby, elderly and pet care items
• Gas for vehicles
• Important documents sealed in waterproof resealable bags

Secure your home

The safest way to ride out a storm at home is to retrofit it with all the proper hurricane preparations. Bring in all loose items on your patio such as pots, furniture and décor that could become a hazard at high wind speeds. While most houses built in the last few decades are up to hurricane code, protecting these areas can ensure that no wind damage is done to your home:

• Roof: Secure all shingles and reinforce roof with wood adhesive
• Straps: Roof to wall connections can weaken, so reinforce with hurricane straps
• Shutters: Either properly attach plywood to all windows or opt for factory manufactured hurricane shutters
• Doors: Check hinges and bolts, especially for double doors
• Garage doors: Double doors are more susceptible to damage, so reinforce the door at it’s weakest points
